The second global dining establishment of Narisawa outside of Tokyo finds home in Mandala Club and will offer an exclusive five-week preview for non-members

Singapore is a magnet that attracts top chefs from all over the world like flowers are to bees. This August 19, famed chef Yoshihiro Narisawa of the two-Michelin starred Narisawa in Tokyo descends upon the Lion City and presents Bees by Narisawa at the Mandala Club. This marks the Japanese chef’s second global dining establishment outside of his Tokyo home in 20 years, after opening Narisawa Shanghai in August 2023. Now, while the private members club may be a bastion of exclusivity, the launch initiative won’t render most to withdraw affection just yet.

For the first five weeks, Bees by Narisawa will be open to the public where non-members can sample what the privileged few will soon call their private culinary playground come October and beyond.

Bees by Narisawa presents Narisawa’s vision of “innovative Satoyama cuisine”, noting that “it seeks to pay homage to Tokyo’s homegrown street culture while highlighting the strong connection between diners and nature.” While the actual menu isn’t revealed yet, gourmands can expect sustainable Japanese produce, meticulously sourced seafood and charcoal-grilled meats, all interpreted with European culinary techniques. Narisawa also intends to “elevate everyday Japanese street food using all-natural ingredients already used in Narisawa (Tokyo).”

Perhaps Narisawa’s signature bread, one that is studded with local tropical fruits and titled “Bread of the Forest 2010”, might just become a permanent fixture—a gourmand can hope.

For imbibers, however, the 700-strong wine list is set in stone and promises to raise the eyebrows of even the most cynical oenophiles. Glean from terroir-driven Old World labels to an exceptional array of Dom Pérignon champagnes. There is even the ultra-exclusive hand-brewed sake from Masuizumi by Masuda Sake Company. For the uninitiated, Masuda sake is the only sake handpicked and served by Narisawa globally—a testament to Narisawa’s dedication to quality and exclusivity.

This isn’t Narisawa’s first rodeo with Mandala Club. Most recently, in April 2023, the chef-owner celebrated Narisawa’s 20th anniversary. This prompted a temporary closure of the Tokyo restaurant for refurbishment and in exchange, he brought his 20-strong team to Singapore for a five-week Mandala Masters culinary residency. This series of sold-out dining collaborations has since featured esteemed chefs such as Mauro Colagreco from Menton’s Mirazur, Bangkok’s Thitid ‘Ton’ Tasanakajohn from Le Du, and Central Restaurant’s Virgilio Martinez and Pia León from Peru.
